Threads

A thread is a way to organize posts in a room so they can all be read or responded to together.

Threads function differently than logs. Logs are more for capturing posts after the fact and filtering them for reading. Threads are created first, then posted into -- they're "opt-in". It isn't always clear who could be part of a log, but it's always clear who's part of a thread.

Starting a thread

To begin a new thread in a room, click the Thread button at the bottom right to open the threads panel.

You can start a new thread by typing its name in the field at left, then clicking Start a new threadcan also choose to start posting in an existing thread (if one is available) by selecting it from the list at right, then clicking Choose existing thread.

When you have a thread selected to post in, you'll see the thread name in green just above your post panel, with a button to the right reading Stop posting in threadyou started the thread, you'll also see the button`Close thread, which will close the thread and prevent others from posting in it.

Posting in a thread

Once you've selected a thread to post in, make your posts normally. Posts made in a thread will show up with a label in green along the top that indicate what thread it's in. Clicking on that label starts you posting in that thread, too, if you aren't already.

Adding a post to a thread

If you make a post and mistakenly don't add it to a thread, you can edit the post, then choose a thread for it to be posted to. Saving the edited post with the new thread information will join it to that thread in its original position.

Seeing an existing thread

To see details about an existing thread, click its name when shown above the posting area. That will take you to the larger panel in your user section where you can see its expanded information, and also see all the posts in the thread in various formats.

Closing a thread

If you started a thread, you can click Close thread to stop others from posting in it. You can also re-open threads from your thread panel, or from the room's thread list.

Deleting a thread

Once a thread has been closed, it can be deleted with the Delete thread button. This does not delete the underlying messages that make up the thread; it just removes the thread reference to them.

Seeing all threads in a room

At the top of the room is a small indicator labeled Threads: that shows how many open and closed threads there are for this room. Click it and you'll see all the available threads for the room, along with controls for them. You can click a thread's name to see full details, click to the first or most recent posts to jump to that post and respond in the thread, or perform maintenance on threads if you own them.

Browsing a thread from the pop-out window

If a post is in a thread, you'll be able to move to the next and previous posts in the thread using the posts's pop-out window controls.

Threads in your inbox

Your Inbox has a tab labeled Posts in your threads that lists all the threads you're currently participating in, and the latest posts to them from others.
